Mapping a Forest While Searching for an Opposite Term of Exorcist

My first major performance out of college was with Mina Nishimura in her piece Mapping a Forest While Searching for an Opposite Term of Exorcist, performed at Jacob’s Pillow (2022) and Danspace Project (2022). I had collaborated with her at Bennington a few years prior, and we were set to perform a duet a PS21 in Chatham when COVID broke out. In this process I remember spending hours learning Mina’s improvisations from video, as well as my own; studying ghosts; drawing lichens; and playing a little Schoenberg piece I learned form Margaret Leng Tan on the piano.
